The gardens in this area cover part of the site of the medieval pottery industry

The medieval pottery industry is believed to have extended as far as the garden at the rear of this property and an excavation was therefore arranged in advance of the extension of a surface car park. The medieval features on the site included the traces of a possible timber structure incorporating upright timber posts. These remains were overlain by a layer of burnt soil which may have accumulated because of the pottery industry. However no pottery wasters or kiln debris was found as might be anticipated if there were kilns in close vicinity. The medieval layers were preserved below a thick layer of garden soil.
