The late-medieval building with adjacent cobble street

The late-medieval building with adjacent cobble street

An area some 50m to the north of Paradise House was excavated in advance of the construction of a car park for a new housing development. The excavation revealed a well-preserved building with stone foundation walls and an adjacent cobble street heading northwards in the direction of the castle entrance. The building consisted of a single room with a large hearth in one corner and probably dated to the 15th and early 16th centuries. Slots cut into the top course of stonework suggest the building had a timber superstructure. The area has been open ground since the building was abandoned.
