From 1736 all deeds concerning property transactions in the North Riding were recorded in a series of books. Some of these deeds are complex but most of them record the buyers and sellers of the property with their occupations and residences. There is also usually a brief description of the property and the abuttals that is the owners of the properties to the north, south, east and west. These are what have been extracted from the register other information is sometimes present such as tenants and family relationships but for simplicity these have been omitted.

As noted above the deeds are recorded in a series of books labelled A,B,C.....AA, AB, AC &c and the deeds are numbered as are the pages within the book; so a deed referenced BD 234 345 should be found in book BD on page 234 and numbered 345. In fact the books are read from microfilms.

The deeds in the database run from 1736 to 1755. There will be errors of transcription (not all by me).

The database may be useful to family historians, house detectives and to those trying to find the social structure of Scarborough in the eighteenth century.
